Dr. Jenks first found interest in Ibogaine when a friend mentioned Eric Taub’s article in Magical Blend magazine, where he discussed its use in therapy, spiritual work and addiction treatment. But his interest in entheogens started in his late teens, when he was treated for severe depression with meds that occasionally induced something like lucid dreaming as a side effect. Since he was an atheist at the time, he went through a lot of transformation in going from an interest in the mind as housed in the brain to an interest in the spirit which gives rise to the brain, and everything else. He has always had a two-fold interest in entheogens, looking for what he can learn about himself and God through them, and also looking for how they could benefit others.

Since he sees spiritual work and helping others as tied together, he became very interested in ibogaine, and was even persuaded to fly to Florida to visit Eric. Eric connected Dr. Jenks with a provider in Europe named Karl, and he provided a place and supplies for Chris while he developed the iboga extraction used today.

In recent years, he was connected with Dr. Anwar Jeewa in South Africa, where they refined the iboga extraction procedure and researched extraction of Voacanga to produce ibogaine, as Bob Sisko already does with his factory in Chennai. They haven’t dedicated ourselves to a single approach to the supply problem, as the opportunities shift as they learn more. Unfortunately, financial constraints have restricted his work in this area to only a few weeks a year, though his wife Dana and he have been seeking some way to make Ibogaine work a full time effort.
