During 1985, Boaz met a cocaine/alcohol/nicotine addict while he was living in Washington DC. He was the first addict he ever met. The man talked about ibogaine and Boaz thought the story sounded completely crazy. Boaz saw him a few months after the Ibogaine treatment that Howard Lotsoff conducted, and he was a changed man – he was no longer addicted to any hard drug and went on to become one of the greatest activists for Ibogaine ever. Boaz was so impressed with the transformation with Ibogaine that in 1988, after he moved to NY, he started to help Howard, Norma and Cisko to shuttle addicts to Europe and treat them with Ibogaine. Between 1988-1993 they treated dozens of people in Europe and in Panama and Boaz has been crusading for Ibogaine treatments ever since. During 2002, Howard, Boaz, and other key Ibogaine providers at the time wrote the treatment manual that is used by many as the foundation of modern treatments. Boaz states, “Ibogaine is a powerful harm reduction tool because every addict that ibogaine interupts his/her addiction is less likely to die from drug over dose, get HIV or other diseases….Therefore Ibogaine should used as often as possible (after proper screening) as a par exellance harm reduction tool around the world.”
